Make a Family Banner to inspire and centre your family.
About a hundred years ago, I saw this project for a fabric banner on Rae Ann Kelly’s blog (which I think was called Armommy at the time, from memory?) and I knew that I would love to make a family banner for our home!
I’ve always loved collecting words – they never fail to inspire me, and I loved the idea of using the banner to inspire our entire family. Of course, best laid plans, and a penchant for indecision means that it has taken approximately a hundred years for me to get my act together and finally get around to making this project happen!😂😂😂
Making our Family Banner
The thing I love about this project, is that it literally took a weekend to complete, but it will be something that we can look to for inspiration for a long time to come.
We began with picking the words. I made a list of words that I think are important to our family and the way we would like our family to live. Then, we sat down with our girls and talked about the words and asked them what they thought was important to them. I used this discussion to play around with the final words we would put on our banner. Once we had picked our ‘Family Motto’, it was time to make the banner… this was my job. ☺️ I used felt to create the banner – I like the sturdiness of the fabric. And to make my life super easy, I used an iron on fusing so it was a no-sew job! Easy as that 😀
So, even though it took a hundred years – I’m so glad we’ve got our family banner. It makes me so happy to be able to see the values that are important to our family hanging in our home.
I’m super-curious, if you were to make a family banner for your family, what would it say?
